Welcome to Coventry & District Model Aero Club
Coventry and District Model Aero Club is a friendly and well established club. Thought to be formed in the 1930’s it was established to encourage the building and flying of model aircraft of all types. The technology has changed since those early days but the ethos remains the same.
Todays members enjoy building and flying all kinds of radio controlled model aircraft, including both IC and electric fixed wing and helicopters, gliders and quadcopters. The club welcomes aeromodellers of all experience levels, from complete beginners to expert pilots.

Learn To Fly

The club has experienced flyers and a trainer model to allow potential new club members a chance to experience the thrills and excitement of flying a radio controlled model aircraft using a buddy box system. If you are thinking about joining and would like the opportunity of a free trial flight, please use our Contact Us form to arrange this, indicating your preferred date. Please note that your trial flight is weather dependent and may be rescheduled at short notice.
Experienced club members are on hand to provide newcomers assistance and guidance as required, from setting up to flying your first model or progressing to intermediate or advanced manoeuvres.
If you are interested in starting out or progressing in this exhilarating and captivating hobby, please contact us.
If you are interested in joining our club, please see the Membership page for details of club fees and a joining form.
How to find us
The club owns its own field which is located halfway between Coventry and Rugby, just south of Wolston village on the Stretton Road. Flying is permitted every day of the year with some time restrictions for IC powered models and noisy electric models. In good weather you are likely to find members flying and visitors are welcome at any time. To avoid disappointment, please contact us in advance and we can arrange for a suitable time to visit when club members will be available.
BMFA affiliation
The club is affiliated to the BMFA (British Model Flying Association). The BMFA is the governing body for model flying and aims to promote, protect, organise and encourage model flying within the UK. The BMFA website provides a wealth of interesting and useful information for anyone interested in model flying.
The BMFA Achievement Scheme is to encourage model flyers to improve their standard of flying, and to demonstrate that standard to an Examiner. A minimum ‘A’ (basic) level achievement is required to fly unsupervised at the club.
The law requires that anyone operating an unmanned aircraft weighing more than 250g is registered with the CAA. Members can fulfil their legal requirements through BMFA membership.
As a member of the BMFA, Article 16 Authorisation is granted by the CAA and allows members to fly drones and model aircraft with increased freedoms compared to standard drone and model aircraft regulations, such as operating above 400ft in certain areas and using larger aircraft, providing they adhere to specific conditions.
